U.S. President Donald Trump stated this Wednesday that he will respond following the European Union's planned retaliation against the United States' 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum. Trump expressed his decision to respond during a meeting at the White House with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin.
The European Union announced "swift and proportionate" measures retaliating against U.S. imports. These measures are expected to affect U.S. products valued at up to 26 billion euros.
"Of course I will respond," Trump said regarding the EU's countermeasures. The president spoke on this matter amid a climate of trade tension between Europe and the United States regarding the tariffs imposed by both sides.
