Tomorrow, March 7, the Federal Court for the District of Columbia in Washington D.C. will announce the sentence for the son of the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as 'El Mencho'. The judge in charge of the sentencing will be Beryl A. Howell. The minimum sentence is expected to be 40 years or life in prison, similar to that of Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán. The hearing is scheduled for 9:30 AM local time.
Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes Jr., alias 'El Menchito', was extradited to the United States in February 2020, and in September 2024, he was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and methamphetamines intended to be imported into the United States, as well as for using firearms in activities related to drug trafficking.
Beryl A. Howell is the judge in charge of the sentencing. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Philosophy with honors in 1978 and subsequently obtained her Doctorate in Law in 1983. She began her legal career as a law clerk for Judge Dickinson R. Debevoise in the District of New Jersey. She has had previous connections with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel by sentencing Jessica Johanna Oseguera González in June 2021, daughter of 'El Mencho' and sister of 'El Menchito'.
Jessica Johanna Oseguera was sentenced to 30 months in prison for violating U.S. Treasury Department sanctions by participating in financial transactions with Mexican companies designated as drug traffickers. On the other hand, 'El Menchito' is accused of drug trafficking and money laundering, including the importation of large quantities of methamphetamine and cocaine into the United States. Recently, other family members, such as Antonio Oseguera Cervantes, have also been extradited to the U.S. for similar offenses.
Rubén Oseguera González, alias 'El Menchito', is among the 29 drug traffickers turned over to U.S. authorities. He is accused of participating in the buying and selling of firearms, money laundering, and coordinating logistical operations for the CJNG.
