Milei Meets IMF Chief in Washington for Key Talks

President Javier Milei will meet on Thursday with the head of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva, in the United States. There is speculation in the market about possible advances in negotiations between the two. The Argentine government is seeking to finalize a new program with the IMF that would allow it to obtain approximately $10 billion in fresh funds.

The meeting between Milei and Georgieva is part of a four-day tour of the Argentine president to Washington. During this visit, Javier Milei also has scheduled meetings with Elon Musk, a tycoon and official of Donald Trump, as well as with representatives of multilateral organizations. Additionally, he will participate in a conservative conference where Donald Trump is expected to give a speech.

Following the recent crisis caused by the promotion of the $LIBRA token last Friday, which resulted in significant losses for investors and sparked international fraud accusations involving the head of state, Milei is resuming his foreign policy agenda. The Argentine president will arrive in Washington on Thursday morning and a meeting is scheduled at 5:15 PM with Elon Musk, recently appointed administrator of the White House Efficiency Department.

Subsequently, at 7 PM, Javier Milei will move to the IMF headquarters to meet with Kristalina Georgieva. It is worth noting that the last meeting between Milei and Georgieva took place at the end of January during the Davos business summit in Switzerland.
