Trump to Impose Tariffs on Mexico and Canada

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced that starting February 1, he will impose a 25% tariff on Mexico and Canada due to the trade deficit, fentanyl trafficking, and irregular migration. At an event at the White House, Trump stated that he would make the decision on the tariffs that same night.

"We do not need the products they have. The first is the people who come to our country in such a terrible way and in such numbers," Trump expressed as the first reason for imposing the tariffs. Regarding the second reason, he mentioned the arrival of fentanyl and other substances into the country.

Trump clarified that the tariffs could be applied to both oil and other products. In relation to Canada, he stated that he would impose a 25% tariff, just like on Mexico, claiming that the United States is providing "massive subsidies" to these countries in the form of a deficit.

Additionally, the U.S. president warned that China could also be affected by tariffs due to the shipment of fentanyl to the United States, causing deaths in the country. Trump indicated that they will make the determination about the tariffs on China in the process.

Finally, Trump extended the possibility of imposing sanctions on countries that do not accept deportation flights for undocumented migrants, stating that they will face swift retaliation.
