In the state of Indiana, a 10-year-old boy died after his adoptive mother, weighing 154 kilograms, sat on him for a few minutes because he was "being bad." 48-year-old Jennifer Li Wilson was sentenced to six years in prison for the involuntary manslaughter of Dakota Levi Stevens.
Police were called to a home in Valparaiso on April 25, when the boy stopped breathing, had no pulse, and was pronounced dead shortly after in the hospital. Officers noted bruising on the child's neck and chest, attempted to revive him, but unsuccessfully. Subsequently, they discovered damage to organs, soft tissues, internal bleeding, and other injuries.
Wilson told police that the child initially ran away from home, but she found him in a neighbor's house where he had gone. According to her words, the boy had been behaving badly, fell on the floor, and said he was leaving. She sat on him for five minutes, reportedly. Then she attempted to perform CPR and called 911, hearing the call, "Are you breathing?" seeing that his lips were pale.
At the hospital, it was reported that the boy sustained injuries to his organs, lungs, and liver, as well as other injuries.
