NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, his wife, and their two children are among the fatal victims of a small plane crash that occurred this Thursday at an airport in North Carolina, a family source confirmed. They were en route to visit family in Florida. The plane, owned by the former driver, crashed while landing at Statesville Regional Airport, about 70 kilometers north of Charlotte, the Iredell County Sheriff's Office confirmed. The aircraft, a Cessna C550 capable of carrying up to seven passengers, crashed around 10:15 local time (15:15 GMT) shortly after departing from the terminal. The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell said at a press conference that there were multiple fatalities but did not identify the victims. "I can confirm that there were deaths," said Iredell County Sheriff Grant Campbell, but he refused to say how many. A video recorded at the scene showed first responders running toward the runway as flames burned near the scattered wreckage of the plane. The airport's website states that Statesville Regional Airport offers corporate aviation facilities for Fortune 500 companies and several NASCAR teams.
