After using torches for the arson of a house in Springfield (Illinois, USA), a woman was charged with the crime at the age of 12 while serving a 44-year prison sentence. 44-year-old Patricia Williams recognized herself as guilty in the intentional arson of the home on North Uller Street on August 11, 2023. The fire was intentionally set by Williams, who was arrested at the scene of the incident. Fire Chief Travis Morris reported to KY3: "Thanks to the quick reaction of the Springfield police, they were able to apprehend the suspect before they could leave the crime scene, and with their assistance in gathering evidence from witnesses, it enabled investigators to conduct a thorough and methodical investigation for the initiation of a criminal case on the presumed arson." Authorities informed that Williams admitted to using torches for the arson, as she knew they would ignite due to the high oil content of the rags. Her actions were recorded on video as she purchased two dollars' worth of gasoline at the nearest gas station, then proceeded to distribute the gasoline she had stored in a bottle for her lighter, throughout the house and a pile of rags. Subsequently, she set fire to the rags and used them to ignite the surrounding area. Three people inside the house were unharmed.
