LeBron James announced on Sunday that he would not participate in the NBA All-Star game due to discomfort in his foot and ankle. Despite missing the official All-Star media day on Saturday, the Los Angeles Lakers star appeared a day later to explain his last-minute withdrawal from the game that was set to take place in San Francisco (USA).
"I hate this but I'm really looking forward to seeing the new format," LeBron mentioned before the game. It's the first time the player has missed a game during All-Star weekend. At 40 years old, 'King James' holds the record for All-Star selections in the NBA with 21 appearances.
The team LeBron was part of in the All-Star game was coached by Shaquille O'Neal and included players like Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors), Kevin Durant (Phoenix Suns), Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown (Boston Celtics), Kyrie Irving (Dallas Mavericks), Damian Lillard (Milwaukee Bucks), and James Harden (Los Angeles Clippers).
LeBron explained: "I’m still dealing with discomfort in my ankle and foot so I won’t be playing tonight, unfortunately."
