Groundhog Day Predictions Lack Accuracy

The U.S. Weather Service has revealed that predictions based on Punxsutawney Phil often lack accuracy. Despite the tradition, the groundhog's forecasts were deemed unreliable this year.

Groundhog Day Predictions Lack Accuracy

The bear cub named Phil from Beniks-Hills in Pennsylvania has gained worldwide fame and each year attracts thousands of beloved viewers at the beginning of February. The American meteorological service stated that forecasts based on his behavior are often unreliable.

Every year, the group of men in the clindras raises Phil out of hibernation, and if the bear sees its shadow, the organizers make a prediction that winter will last for six more weeks. However, the meteorological office warned that predictions based on this could be completely erroneous.

This year, a ranking of Phil and other animals was compiled, used in various states for forecasting the arrival of spring. Compared to the predictions of animals with the real weather situation, it turned out that Phil ranked 17th in reliability, with accuracy less than 35%.

The highest prediction accuracy was demonstrated by a bear from New York state named Staten-Island Chuck, with a prediction reliability of 85%.
