Electoral officials in Clackamas County, Oregon report incidents of mail-in ballots sealed by humidity, impacting voters in Portland and surrounding areas. Voters must verify procedures with local election offices.

Voters Report Sealed Ballots Due to Humidity

Election authorities report that in various areas recently affected by rain and humidity, voters have received mail-in ballots that are sealed due to moisture. This situation has been reported in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Alabama, and Oregon, among other places.

In Clackamas County, Oregon, four reports of sealed envelopes have been received out of a total of 320,000 ballots sent by mail. County Secretary Catherine McMullen mentions that similar cases occur in every election in different counties of Oregon, depending on weather conditions.

JMRSS, in charge of an election office, explains that it is common to receive some calls related to sealed envelopes due to moisture in every election. They point out that like any self-sealing envelope, if it gets wet, it remains sealed.

All voters who receive already sealed envelopes should contact their respective county election office to confirm the steps to take, as the rules vary depending on the county and the state where they reside.

Trey Forrest, absentee ballot coordinator in Jefferson County, Alabama, mentions that some ballots sent in mid-September were affected by moisture, but no cases have been reported in recent weeks.
