Actor Charley Scalies, known for his performances in television series such as "The Wire" and "The Sopranos", as well as in the film "12 Monkeys", passed away at the age of 84. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Scalies died last Thursday at a nursing center in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania after a long battle with Alzheimer's.

Charley Scalies was born in Philadelphia on July 19, 1940, being the youngest of three siblings. He grew up in the same city, where his father, an Al Jolson impersonator, sparked his interest in acting. From high school, Scalies showed talent for performance, doing comedy routines at local venues with a friend.

After college, Scalies worked in sales and contracting before founding his own consulting firm, stepping away from the world of entertainment for a while. However, in the 90s, at the age of 50, he returned to his passion for acting in community theater productions in Springfield, Pennsylvania.

In the 1990s, Scalies ventured into film with movies like "Condition Red", "One Day to Remember" and "12 Monkeys". Later, he appeared in series such as "Homicide: Life on the Street" and "Law & Order". In 2003, he had a prominent role in "The Wire" as Thomas 'Horseface' Pakusa and in 2004 in "The Sopranos" as Coach Molinaro.

Throughout his career, Charley Scalies accumulated 15 credits in various productions, including appearances in "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "Cold Case". Despite starting his acting journey at an older age, he managed to stand out in the entertainment industry with his talent and versatility.
