The university clarified in a press release that it has not yet confirmed the identities of the victims or the condition of the injured. Following a report of the shooting, the university in Orangeburg imposed a security lockdown at approximately 9:15 p.m., which lasted for four hours. Investigators are at the scene, while security forces are patrolling the campus and surrounding areas. The university canceled classes for Friday and provided counseling services for students. This university has previously been the site of two shooting incidents, one of which occurred in the same student housing complex and resulted in casualties. South Carolina State University has an enrollment of approximately 2,800 students.
