Trump's Controversial Comments on Military and Trade

The former president of the United States, Donald Trump, met with executives of the newspaper The Wall Street Journal, where he discussed various topics related to foreign policy, immigration, and other issues. During the meeting, Trump expressed his position regarding the possible use of the military or the National Guard in the event of civil unrest on election day, generating some concern. After suggesting this possibility, Trump backed off and clarified that he would not use the military against political opponents, although he would consider deploying the National Guard in situations of severe unrest.

In the meeting, Trump also mentioned that he might have persuaded Xi Jinping, the Chinese president, not to block Taiwan through threats of tariffs. He reiterated his support for trade tariffs, which he called "the most beautiful word in the dictionary," despite the WSJ's opposition to this measure. Regarding immigration, Trump talked about family separations during his administration, acknowledging the need to address the issue compassionately.

During the meeting, Trump showed greater knowledge and confidence in political matters compared to previous interviews. It was mentioned that Trump spoke openly about his conversations with Vladimir Putin, including alleged warnings of attacking the center of Moscow if Russia invaded Ukraine. On the other hand, he criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, labeling him as "commercial" and suggesting that under his presidency, the invasion would never have occurred.

Trump's statements at the meeting generated reactions from the Kremlin, mentioning the importance of maintaining "informational hygiene" amid heated statements during the electoral campaign. Additionally, Trump criticized trade agreements such as NAFTA and TPP, supported by the WSJ, and expressed his desire for legal immigration. Despite the criticisms and differences, Trump praised the newspaper during the closed-door meeting.
