Adan Manzano, a 27-year-old sports journalist of Mexican origin, died under circumstances that have not yet been specified while he was in New Orleans to cover the Super Bowl for Telemundo Kansas City and Tico Sports. Two days after his death, it was reported that a woman identified as Danette Colbert, 48 years old, was arrested in connection with the case, although it was not specified that she was involved in Manzano's death.
The police were able to access security camera footage from the hotel where the journalist was staying, showing the arrested woman with him on the morning of February 5. Hours before hotel staff discovered Manzano dead in his room, Colbert left the room and attempted to use his bank cards several times around New Orleans.
Although there is no conclusive evidence of her involvement in Manzano's death, Colbert faces charges of fraud and theft, as she attempted to commit criminal acts against the property of the deceased journalist. The woman already had a criminal record for similar behaviors, including drugging men, stealing their money, and using their bank cards at least three times.
Adan Manzano was recognized as a talented and dedicated professional in his field. Graduating in journalism from Kansas State University in 2024, he had worked as a sports presenter at Telemundo Kansas City and had excelled in covering the Kansas City Chiefs. Previously, in Mexico, he had worked for Sky Sports as a reporter.
The tragic death of Manzano was mourned by his colleagues both in the United States and Mexico, especially considering that he had recently faced difficulties following the death of his wife in a car accident in April 2024. Authorities continue to investigate the case to clarify the circumstances surrounding the young journalist's death.
