ICE Agent Kills Woman During Minneapolis Immigration Raid

On Wednesday in south Minneapolis, an officer from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency killed a woman during a migration raid, the Department of Homeland Security reported. The shooting occurred on East 34th Street and Portland Avenue, where federal and local law enforcement faced off for hours with protesters, according to CBS News and ABC News. According to Noticias Argentinas, the victim was a 37-year-old woman. The killing comes as 2,000 federal agents have been deployed to the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The shooting also occurred just a few blocks from where a Minneapolis officer killed George Floyd in 2020, which sparked weeks of protests in Minneapolis-St. Paul and across the United States. In response, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a statement on Truth Social Wednesday night, claiming the woman shot by an ICE agent “brutally ran him over” before being shot. Municipal leaders stated that the victim was a legal observer for federal actions in the city and was not subject to any ICE-related arrest. Witnesses told WCCO that whistles were blown to alert neighbors to ICE's presence. The Honda advanced several more meters before crashing into another vehicle. The shooting is being investigated by the FBI and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. However, the video he attached to the post shows no signs of an agent being hit by the vehicle, according to CBS News. In his comments, Trump stated that “the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing, and resisting” and blamed the entire incident on “the radical left that threatens, assaults, and attacks our law enforcement and ICE agents daily.” According to U.S. Senator Tina Smith, the woman killed was a U.S. citizen. Witnesses claim to have seen a Honda Pilot blocked by several federal agents, with one attempting to open the driver's door. The driver then put the car in reverse and then drive forward. Witnesses report hearing three shots.
