In a press conference, Mascherano stated: 'It would be disrespectful to a player like Messi to tell him where to receive.' Inter Miami leads the series thanks to a 1-0 victory in the first match. Mascherano explained: 'We try to ensure that the team doesn’t take up those spaces, which I think is the most important thing when you have a player like Messi.'
Regarding Messi, Mascherano praised his unique vision of football and his ability to interpret the game. If they advance to the next phase, Inter Miami will face the Cavalier Soccer Club from Jamaica in the round of 16 of the Concachampions. Referring to Messi, Mascherano expressed: 'And from there, let him make us play.'
