Honduran Declares Innocence in Murder Case

A 21-year-old Honduran, Héctor David Sagastume Rivas, pleaded not guilty on Monday to several charges related to the murder of a woman in Georgia last March. This case has been used by the White House to support its rhetoric against...

The accused, in the presence of his lawyer, denied his involvement in the crime during a court hearing. Last March, Sagastume Rivas was arrested in Ocala, Florida, and transferred to the Cobb County jail in Georgia, where he was charged with first-degree murder and other offenses.

Authorities assert that the Honduran was the one who shot the victim in an apartment. His defense attorney has stated that his client has no criminal record and that there is a possibility that a mistake was made in identifying the perpetrator.

During the hearing, the young Honduran remained silent and only responded to the judge's questions. It is currently unknown what the case's development will be and whether evidence will be presented that clarifies the situation.

As for the White House's stance, no statements have been made regarding this particular case so far. However, various political sectors have used this news to support their rhetoric on immigration and security in the United States.
