The criminal Andrew Phillip Cunanan was added by the FBI to a list of the ten most wanted people. His trail of violence began with the murder of real estate businessman Lee Miglin in Chicago. After killing him, he took his car, a green 1994 Lexus, and traveled to Pennsville, New Jersey, where he killed his fourth victim, 45-year-old watchman William Reese.
Cunanan, seeking to evade authorities, moved to Miami Beach, Florida, where he remained hidden for two months. However, his attempt to change appearance did not stop his violent actions. On July 15, 1997, Gianni Versace, the famous Italian fashion designer, was murdered by Cunanan when he opened the door of his mansion in Miami and was shot twice in the head.
The criminal continued his homicide escalation with the murders of Jeffrey Trail in Minneapolis and David Madson in Rush City, Minnesota. He then moved to Chicago where he tortured and murdered Lee Miglin, committing an extremely violent act. Marilyn Miglin, the victim's wife, discovered the scene upon arriving home.
Cunanan, who had become one of the FBI's most wanted fugitives, took his own life eight days after the murder of Versace. His body was found with the same weapon he had used to commit his crimes. Despite his excesses and previous offenses, his family claimed they were unaware of any relationship with the last victim.
Since his birth on August 31, 1969, in California, troubling behavioral patterns were evident in Cunanan. Despite his intelligence, his adolescence was marked by lies and fantasies. After his encounter with Versace years prior, the motive behind that murder continues to be a subject of speculation, with analysts suggesting motivations related to envy and a quest for fame.
After a period of drug trafficking and crimes, Cunanan decided to take his own life before being captured. His story and the violent path of his life left a trail of pain and suffering in the families of the victims.
