Andrés Escandón Elected to Republican Party in Miami

Andrés Escandón Attiq, son of the former Morena governor of Chiapas, Rutilio Escandón, was elected as a member of the Republican Party in District 19 of Miami, Florida, in the United States. Since December 2024, his father has been appointed by President Claudia Sheinbaum as the Consul General of Mexico in the state of Florida.

Andrés Escandón announced his election as a member of the Republican Party through his social media: 'I am honored to have been elected as a Member of Republicans of Miami District 19. Ready to grow the Party, win elections, and defend the United States!'.

Originally from Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, and a naturalized American, Escandón Attiq had previously expressed his support for the ideals of former President Donald Trump. For example, on March 24, while running for the Republican committee of Miami-Dade, he made his sympathy known on his social media.

In addition to being a 'candidate for the Republican committee of [Miami-Dade]' and supporting Trump on '[my] social media', he also enjoys supporting my Party at its events. In another post, he shared his attendance at a Republican Party event in commemoration of Women's History Month, where he coincided with former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

His election marks the beginning of a formal participation within the Republican Party structure in Florida. So far, the Consul General in Miami, Rutilio Escandón, has not disclosed his position regarding his son's integration into the official party in the United States and his Trumpist sympathies.
