
State authorities confirmed the arrest of the former treasurer of ex-governor Silvano Aureoles, Carlos Maldonado, in the city of Miami. The former Secretary of Finance was wanted by Mexican authorities to answer accusations from the Government of Michoacán, according to journalist Lourdes Mendoza.
Carlos Maldonado was sought due to the issue of the Civil Guard barracks. Along with him, Mario Delgado Murillo, administrative delegate, and Guillermo Loaiza Gómez, former director of the State Executive Power's Procurement Committee, were also arrested, all former public officials from Silvano Aureoles Conejo's administration.
So far, no further details have been revealed about the arrests of these important former officials from the previous PRD administration. Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla presented several complaints, and prosecutors opened investigations into the alleged misappropriation of 5 billion 186 million pesos.
Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla pointed out that the resources were misappropriated in the construction of barracks in different locations, with irregularities in the reported costs. Carlos Maldonado is the first high-ranking official from the previous administration to be arrested after more than three years of investigations.
