In the month of breast cancer awareness, the company Roche organized the first day of Press Day, Women, Health, and Equity. This meeting brought together health professionals and stakeholders involved in the issue, with the aim of establishing partnerships to drive change and improve women's healthcare in Latin America. The event took place in Miami, Florida, as part of the pharmaceutical company's global commitment to women's health.
During the event, conferences and discussion panels were held addressing various issues related to women's health. Stephanie Sassman, leader of the Health portfolio in the Global Product Strategy group of Genentech/Roche, opened the talks with the topic "Why is Roche committed to women's health?", highlighting the search for comprehensive solutions to address sex and gender health gaps worldwide.
The different presentations focused on the financial aspects of women's health, addressing topics such as the hidden costs of neglecting women's health, the importance of investing in women's care, and how women's health should be seen as a strategic investment. A Deloitte study in the United States revealed disparities in healthcare costs, where women pay 18% more than men annually for services not covered by insurance.
One possible solution to reduce this gap would be to establish partnerships and support financing schemes to ensure women's access to the treatments they need. Claudia Restrepo, director of the Deloitte Health Equity Institute for Latin America, suggested that insurers and employers could redesign benefit coverage for women as a measure to improve equity in healthcare.
Roche expressed its concern about this situation and announced the Global XProject campaign, an initiative aimed at promoting women's health by addressing the barriers that hinder their access to adequate medical care. Through this campaign, the company seeks to implement actions that generate solutions and significant changes in this area.
