Over 80 Protesters Detained in 'No Kings' Rallies Against Trump

More than 80 American protesters were detained following demonstrations by the 'No Kings' movement against President Donald Trump in Los Angeles, Denver, Portland, and Dallas, local authorities reported to the press on Sunday. The largest number of arrests occurred in Los Angeles, California, where the Los Angeles Times reported over 70 arrests, and NBC reported at least 'six dozen' detentions during the rally that drew tens of thousands of people to the city center, where some threw rocks, bottles, and concrete at the police. Although the protest was largely peaceful, the Los Angeles Police Department issued a dispersal order, deployed tear gas, and fired pepper balls at protesters near the Metropolitan Detention Center. 'Federal agents have begun arresting those who attacked our staff at the Los Angeles courthouse. For those who threw concrete blocks at our officers, we have them on video,' announced Bill Essayli, an assistant U.S. attorney for the Central District of California, on X. These arrests add to the eight that occurred in Denver (Colorado), at least two others in Portland (Oregon), and one more in Dallas (Texas), according to local media counts. Additionally, supporters of President Trump confronted a group of 'No Kings' protesters at a march near Mar-a-Lago, where the president's residence is located in Florida, although no aggression was reported. Aside from these detentions, the third day of the 'No Kings' movement passed without major incidents, with organizers claiming at least 8 million people participated in over 3,300 protests across all 50 states. The protesters denounced the 'illegal war' Trump began a month ago in Iran, which has led to a rise in fuel prices and inflation, while also reiterating their criticism of the 'abuses' by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The coalition of about 400 groups, including Amnesty International, Indivisible, unions, and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), claimed to have surpassed the previous two editions: 7 million attendees and 2,700 events in October, and 5 million protesters at 2,100 sites in June 2025. The main mobilization took place in Minneapolis, the largest city in Minnesota, which has become the epicenter of national outrage against ICE and the Border Patrol after their agents killed American citizens Renee Good and Alex Pretti there in January.
