Starting in 2029, the Oscar ceremony will be held in a new location: downtown Los Angeles at the L.A. LIVE venue. This decision comes after the awards' 100-year history. The new Peacock Theatre will host not only the ceremony itself but also red carpet events.

The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Thursday an agreement to move the Oscar gala from its traditional Dolby Theatre in Hollywood to downtown Los Angeles starting in 2029, right after commemorating the centenary of the industry's most coveted awards.In a press release, the Academy announced that its partnership with entertainment company AEG «makes L.A. LIVE the new home of the Oscars, beginning with the 101st ceremony in 2029».The agreement will be valid for ten years at the venue known as the Peacock Theatre, where other awards such as the Emmys—the most important in international television—are also held.Recently expanded by 370,000 square meters, the new venue «will host the arrivals and red carpet events,» the statement said.After its centenary, this venue located in downtown Los Angeles will also be the first to host a ceremony that will be broadcast globally via YouTube.«L.A. LIVE was built to host the moments that define culture, and there is no bigger global stage than the Oscars,» said AEG's Revenue Director, Todd Goldstein, in turn.
