Today a new rapidly spreading wildfire was reported in Los Angeles County, United States, covering 2.02 square kilometers, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire). The incident, named the Hughes Fire, was reported in the Lake Hughes Road area near Lake Castaic, about 80 kilometers northwest of downtown Los Angeles.
The flames reached their current magnitude in less than an hour and a half, fueled by heavy dry vegetation and gusts of Santa Ana winds. Authorities reported that this wildfire, the most recent in Southern California, is spreading rapidly and evacuation orders have already been issued for the Lake Castaic area and the remote areas near the canyon.
Los Angeles County has been affected by deadly fires this month. The Eaton and Palisades fires, the largest occurring in the most populated county in the United States, have resulted in 28 deaths, leading to numerous mandatory evacuation orders and destroying thousands of structures.
