The world champion Argentina team, led by Lionel Messi, has chosen Kansas City, in the Midwest of the United States, as its base during the 2026 World Cup. The Argentine Football Association (AFA) announced in a statement that the choice is because “it is the ideal site to face the competition according to the distances between cities, but mainly due to the comforts for the delegation.” The entity did not reveal the exact location where the squad, led by coach Lionel Scaloni, will train. The Albiceleste, champions in Qatar 2022, will debut against Algeria on June 16 at Kansas City Stadium in Group J. They will then face Austria on June 22 in Dallas and close the first round against Jordan on June 27 in the same city. AFA emphasized that Kansas City's strategic location in the center of the United States will allow the Argentine delegation to make air transfers to other US cities in less time. Argentina, which will face Spain in the Finalissima in Qatar in March, plans to arrive in the United States in the first days of June and play a series of friendly matches to prepare for the World Cup.
