Woman in Maryland Declared Dead by Mistake

Nicole Paulino from Gaithersburg, Maryland, faced a harrowing ordeal after being mistakenly declared dead while renewing her driver's license. The error disrupted her health insurance and caused medical bill accumulation. After media intervention, Social Security confirmed the mistake was due to a clerical error. She is now officially back to life.

Maryland resident Nicole Polino was found on the list of the deceased by mistake when she tried to renew her driver's license, which prompted her to take an illegal path to return to life.

Polino from Hyattsville was shocked to see on the screen of the Maryland Transportation Administration system in November that she was told, "she is deceased," and added, "I was in a state of shock, because I am alive. I am here."

After refusing to renew her driver’s license, the transportation service also sent her a letter from the tax service, stating "forward taxes have been lost."

Afterward, Polino's medical insurance and that of her three children were annulled. "If it weren't for NBC News, who offered their help, I would have never been able to solve this problem."

Polino admitted that "this ruined her life," and continued: "I tried to do this myself and nothing worked out."

The Department of Social Services stated that anyone who incorrectly declares their death must contact them as soon as possible so they can take immediate action.

Medical bills began to accumulate, which prevented her from getting an inhaler that she needed to fight asthma.

After News4's intervention, Polino finally received a letter from the social services agency, in which they officially announced that she was "alive" again.

She said, "I tried to do this myself and couldn’t solve anything."
