Apple Faces Criticism Over Diversity Programs

Apple's annual meeting reveals criticisms regarding diversity initiatives, while the company plans a $500 billion investment and hiring in the U.S., amid political pressures.

Apple Faces Criticism Over Diversity Programs

Apple held its annual meeting facing criticism over its efforts in diversity and inclusion, in line with what happened earlier with Costco. The National Center for Public Policy Research questioned Apple's diversity practices and warned of potential discrimination lawsuits. The company reaffirmed its commitment to diversity citing its business consistency.

A glitch in the dictation feature of some iPhones caused controversy when the word "Trump" briefly appeared after mentioning the word "racist." Apple responded by indicating it was working on a solution to the problem, associated with the phonetic overlap of certain words with "r" consonants, although not all devices experienced the issue.

Despite these setbacks, Apple announced ambitious investment plans in the United States, including job creation and the construction of a new factory in Texas. On another front, shareholders rejected a proposal from the NCPPR to eliminate diversity programs, thus maintaining their stance on the incorporation of inclusive practices within the company.
