A shooting at a high school in Texas on Monday shook an entire community just before the spring break. A 15-year-old student shot a teacher and then took his own life at Hill Country College Preparatory in Bulverde, north of San Antonio, local authorities reported. The attack, which occurred Monday morning, left the teacher seriously injured and triggered an emergency response that paralysed the school area. According to Comal County Police Chief Mark Reynolds, no other injuries were reported, but the case is under investigation to clarify the motive and how the minor obtained the weapon. According to reports from local TV station KSAT-TV, students heard several gunshots from a classroom on the second floor shortly after 8:30 a.m. "There were loud bangs and then screams," a student told the media. Another student said she heard at least five shots before teachers activated the emergency protocol and ordered students to shelter in classrooms. The school was immediately placed on lockdown as police and emergency teams entered the premises. Scenes of distress After the situation was brought under control, students were evacuated by bus to another nearby high school, where the reunification process with their families took place. Images reported by local media showed long lines of parents, some praying, waiting for news of their children. According to authorities, the family of the attacker himself was at the scene. School principal Julie Wiley confirmed the immediate cancellation of all academic activities and announced that the campus will remain closed while psychological support is provided to students and families.
